Revolutionizing Search with AI Overviews
Launched last year at Google I/O, AI Overviews has changed how millions use Google Search. With its ability to handle complex, long, and even multimodal queries, AI Overviews has become one of Google’s most successful innovations in a decade. Users in key markets like the U.S. and India have responded positively, driving a 10%+ increase in searches involving AI Overviews.
AI Overviews offer more helpful responses along with traditional web links. Users who experience this enhanced search model return more frequently and ask deeper, more nuanced questions. It’s fast, smart, and incredibly intuitive — delivering the fastest AI responses in the industry.
Introducing AI Mode in Google Search
To build on the success of AI Overviews, Google is now launching AI Mode, a powerful new way to search. Initially tested in Labs, AI Mode is now available in the U.S. without requiring any sign-up. This mode offers advanced reasoning, deep search, and multimodal capabilities. It allows users to ask follow-up questions and dive further into the web through helpful links.
How AI Mode Works
AI Mode leverages a unique query fan-out technique, breaking complex queries into subtopics and launching multiple searches simultaneously. This allows Google to extract more relevant and in-depth information from across the web.
AI Mode also integrates Gemini 2.5, Google’s most intelligent AI model yet, bringing advanced reasoning to both AI Overviews and AI Mode. As feedback comes in, features from AI Mode will gradually become part of the core search experience.
Deep Search and Real-Time Help
A standout feature in AI Mode is Deep Search, which can issue hundreds of sub-queries, synthesize results, and deliver a fully-cited expert-level report in minutes — ideal for researchers and students.
Live capabilities from Project Astra also make their debut in AI Mode. With Search Live, users can interact with Search through their camera, enabling real-time visual search and back-and-forth conversations for instant help and suggestions.
Agentic Capabilities for Everyday Tasks
With Project Mariner, Google Search is becoming more than just a tool — it’s becoming an agentic assistant. Users can now ask AI Mode to help with tasks like buying event tickets or booking restaurant reservations. By analyzing hundreds of options in real time, it saves time while keeping users in control.
AI Mode also supports a new AI shopping partner. It merges Gemini’s intelligence with Google’s Shopping Graph to help users discover, compare, and purchase products with ease. You can even virtually try on outfits using just one image of yourself.
Tailored Search With Personal Context
Soon, AI Mode will incorporate personal context from your Google account (with your consent). It will tailor results based on past searches, Gmail data, and bookings. For example, when planning a weekend trip, it can suggest personalized restaurants and events based on your preferences and travel plans.
Visualizing Data with Custom Graphs
Need help understanding complex stats? AI Mode can generate custom charts and graphs for data-rich queries in areas like sports or finance. It turns raw data into visuals that make sense at a glance.
AI in Google Search is no longer just about finding information — it’s about understanding, assisting, and getting things done. With AI Mode, Google is redefining how we interact with the web — and this is just the beginning. Read more about programming languages here and here
