Introduction
India has witnessed several cases where women are trapped in relationships under the false promise of marriage. The law is very clear: if consent for sexual intercourse is obtained through deceit or false assurances, it amounts to rape.
One such case recently came to light in Mumbai, where an FIR was filed against Minhajul Aabdin Ansari. According to the victim’s statement, he lured her with marriage promises, gained her trust, and then raped her inside a hotel room on 1st July 2025.
How Minhajul Aabdin Ansari Trapped the Victim
The accused, working as a Café Lead in a company, came into contact with the victim who had newly joined the same café branch.
As per FIR records:
- First Contact: Minhajul Ansari met the victim at her workplace.
- Marriage Talk from the Start: Unlike casual flings, he directly presented himself as someone serious about marriage.
- Family Introduction: To strengthen her trust, he made her speak to his parents and sister over video calls. This gave the victim a sense of security that his intentions were genuine.
- Repeated Assurances: He told her he wanted to settle with her, not just have a relationship.
All these actions, as per the complaint, were part of a carefully planned manipulation.
The Nightmare of 1st July 2025 — The Hotel Incident — (Hotel Super Grant Road)
On 1st July, the accused convinced the victim to meet him, saying he wanted to spend “quality time” with her. Initially, she resisted, but he insisted that he had already booked a hotel room and did not want the money to go to waste. He reassured her by saying:
“I am going to marry you. Don’t you trust me? I will never do anything wrong.” — English
“Main tumse shaadi karne wala hoon. Kya tum mujh par trust nahi karti? Kuch bhi galat nahi karunga.” — Hindi
But the reality was very different:
- No advance booking was made by him.
- An unauthorized soft copy of victim’s ID proof was misused to check-in.
- Even though hotels generally do not accept soft copies, he pressured the staff saying, “Manager mere pehchaan ka hai, adjust kar lo.” This allowed them to check in.
- Once inside the room, she realized something was wrong.
As Per Victim’s initial mail for complaint it is clearly mentions:
- She resisted and said no multiple times.
- She tried to push him away.
- Despite her refusal, Minhajul Ansari forcibly had sex with her not once, but twice that same day.
The victim stated that during the assault, Minhajul Ansari became aggressive, his eyes turning red with anger, and said:
“I haven’t done this for two years. I am going to marry you anyway, so let me do it. Don’t worry, we are going to get married anyway. Trust me.” — English
“Do saal se kuch nahi kiya, ab karne do. Waise bhi main tumse shaadi karne wala hoon.” — Hindi
This statement itself proves that her consent was obtained by fraud and emotional manipulation, not free will.
After the Assault — A Sudden Shock and Betrayal
Even after the forced incident, the victim still believed he would marry her. But the betrayal unfolded quickly:
- On 4th July 2025, Minhajul Ansari blocked the victim on all communication platforms.
- Which clearly indicates his false assurance and his plan to just obtain physical intimacy.
The victim realized she was used only for sexual gratification and then discarded.
The victim was left in deep shock and trauma. She could not immediately gather the courage to approach the police. As she explained, it took almost one full month just to come out of the emotional breakdown and file her complaint on 4th August 2025, whereas she had already tried to do so on 14th July 2025, but she was too scared.
Minhajul fled to Mumbra
Later, when victim’s relative spoke to the accused and his brother on 1st August 2025, even in their presence, the accused admitted what he had done. His family, however, had already refused the marriage proposal, but Minhajul kept lying to the victim just to keep her trust until he got what he wanted.
The victim’s family further revealed that:
- The accused’s brother asked them for “one more day” to resolve the matter, but soon after, Minhajul Ansari fled to Mumbra.
- His family members allegedly started threatening the victim’s mother, warning her not to file a case and saying they would file a reverse case against the victim’s family if she proceeded legally.
All this behaviour shows a clear criminal mindset and intimidation tactics.
Pattern of Manipulation — Past and Present
The victim later revealed that Minhajul Aabdin Ansari had a history of broken marriage proposals. On more than one occasion, his earlier engagements were called off.
Using this background, he told the victim:
- He wanted to meet in the hotel to “share his pain”, “talk about his struggles” and “spend some quality time.”
- He presented himself as a victim of failed relationships, saying he had suffered emotionally.
- This emotional card created sympathy in the victim’s mind, making her more vulnerable to his deception.
But the contradictions were clear. While claiming he had “not been with anyone for two years,” he simultaneously admitted to having sexual relations in his past failed engagements. This contradiction suggests that he may have used those women as well for his own benefit, just like in the present case.
Even more disturbing, after blocking the victim on 4th July 2025, he started projecting her name in front of others to gain sympathy, while he himself went into hiding. This behaviour mirrors the same tactic he earlier used — showing one face to a woman in private and another to society in public.
Legal Action and FIR Details
On 4th August 2025, after one month, gathering the courage, the victim approached the police. Her statement was recorded, and based on the contents of the FIR, the following was noted:
- Accused: Minhajul Aabdin Mohammad Irfan Ansari
- Offence Registered: Section 69 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) — rape under false promise of marriage.
- Arrest & Custody: Minhajul Ansari was arrested and spent 20 days in judicial custody before securing bail.
Indian law is clear:
- IPC Section 90 states that consent obtained through deception is no consent at all.
- Hence, this is a clear case of rape under Indian law.
Why This Case is a Clear Example of Rape
Legal experts stress that this is not a case of a “relationship gone wrong.” Instead, it is a criminal offence because:
- Consent obtained by false promise is invalid The Supreme Court and various High Courts have consistently ruled that sexual intercourse on the basis of a false promise of marriage amounts to rape.
- Hotels must verify ID proofs properly. Allowing entries with unauthorized or soft copies creates loopholes that can be exploited.
- The FIR against Minhajul Ansari shows pre-planning His act of introducing the victim to family, misusing her ID, and then abandoning her proves dishonest intention from the beginning.
- Post-incident behaviour confirms the fraud Blocking the victim on 4th July just 2–3 days after the incident and later denying marriage shows that his real intent was only sexual exploitation.
- Past pattern of manipulation. His history of broken engagements and contradictions expose habitual exploitation.
- Victim’s delayed complaint shows trauma, not weakness. One month’s delay was simply the time needed to recover from shock. Courts have repeatedly accepted this as natural in rape cases.
- Love affair argument is false. Here, the case was never about “relationship” — from start to finish, it was only about marriage promises. Accepting this as a “love affair” would be an injustice, as the victim’s consent was solely based on marriage assurances.
- Bail is common but not proof of innocence. In most rape cases, accused get bail, but that does not negate the gravity of the crime.
- Victims must speak up. Though difficult, timely complaints can prevent further exploitation.
- Society must recognize emotional manipulation as abuse. Psychological coercion is as damaging as physical force.
Social Impact and Need for Awareness
Cases like this highlight a larger social issue:
- Many women hesitate to come forward due to fear of stigma.
- Men like Minhajul Ansari misuse trust and the sacred institution of marriage for lust.
- Such cases show how emotional trust can be misused, leaving victims in pain and trauma.
- Hotels and service providers must be stricter in verifying ID usage to prevent exploitation.
Awareness is crucial so that more women understand their rights and more men understand the severe consequences of such criminal acts.
Conclusion
The FIR against Minhajul Aabdin Ansari is more than a personal betrayal — it is a criminal case of rape under deception.
According to the victim’s statement, he used:
- Lies of marriage
- Emotional manipulation
- Coercion and force
- Threats and intimidation afterwards
…to satisfy his lust.
Under Indian law, such acts are rape, and the case of Minhajul Ansari stands as a reminder that justice will catch up with those who exploit trust in the name of marriage.
